At the Uranjek farm (Pri Baronu) one can surely notice that the family loves and respects the nature and lives hand in hand with it. The neat surroundings, their relationship with animals, the cultivation of vegetables, their herbal knowledge and manual dexterity will definitely surprise you. And when you are served the fresh, home-made food in the pleasant garden, surrounded by the soft grass, the tastes of Pohorje will definitely delight your palate. With the children playing away in the playground, bonding with different animals you will find yourself in a pure natural-idyll under Pohorje.
You will find the farm in the village Planica nad Framom (near Maribor), amid meadows, fields, fruit gardens and forests, where Pohorje descends towards the plain. Here the food is prepared with love – from the seed to the plate. Upon arrival, you are greeted with an aperitif and sandwiches, and you can choose among different menus for lunch, including a vegetarian one. The food is home-made, organically-produced and served fresh every day. This is why prior notice is required.
Beside the lunch menu, you can also order the 'Pohorje pot' (a stew that contains typical vegetables from the Pohorje area), buckwheat 'žganci' with mushroom soup, in the wintertime 'koline' – pork meatand sausages (saurkraut or pickled cabbage, grilled sausage, roast meat, beans with cracklings,...). Those with a sweet tooth can try some 'gibanica', apple strudel, or 'potica'. Random visitors will not leave hungry either, they will be served with cold meats and products in tunka (lard).
The Uranjek family has a colourful herbal garden and you must try some of their home-made fruit liqueurs (cherry, blueberry, sage, peppermint, balm, wild cherry) or the herbs soaked in spirits (nettle, wormwood, and sedum). If you don't want alcohol, you can also choose among a variety of home-made juices: apple, cherry, currant, raspberry, elder, sage, balm and peppermint.
The farm is really child friendly; children can spend time on the swings, in a sand-box, on a bowling alley, a slide, a football pitch/field and a volleyball court. They can enjoy the company of numerous domestic animals that wander freely around the farm and are a joy to watch. Besides the cows there are rabbits, 'Mačo' the dog, 'Tika' the cat, chicken, ducks, 'Liza' the pony, geese, turkeys and even a Vietnamese pig called 'Pika'.
At the farm you can buy organic food with certification. You can choose from different types of vegetables, apples, pears, various juices and syrups, dried fruit, a verity of teas, liqueurs, spirits and eggs.
For all the curious visitors they organize a guided tour of the organic farm and the herbal garden, different creative workshops, lectures on organic farming and else.
If you still want to know more about the farm, visit their website, where you can find a lot of additional information on the farm and their offer. In short, the farm is fantastic and an excellent example of farming and catering. Thanks to the hard work they put in everything they do. Well done!
