Slovenia's diverse terrain offers endless possibilities for mountain biking, whether you are an experienced rider searching for challenging single-trails or an easy-going cyclist who would like to explore the rolling hills of Slovenian vineyards. All the way from Adriatic Sea to the Alps and Pannonian plains you can find a wide variety of lonely roads and trails for unforgettable biking holidays.
North-western part of Slovenia is the most spectacular if you are looking for difficult tours and the best views onto our highest mountains. Soča valley (Bovec, Kobarid & Tolmin) has a number of amazing mountain biking tours with superb single-trail descents along the old ''mule tracks'' from the 1st world war; the mountains around Kranjska Gora offer amazing views and trails of all difficulties; the area around Bled and Bohinj is amazing due to its fairytale alpine scenery and has quite a few playful trails for experienced mountain bikers.
A special option for keen mountain bikers is also the Koroška region (eastern edge of Slovenian Alps), where you can ride in an private single trail park and even bike through the abandoned mine tunnels.
The wooded hills of Slovenian subalpine region are the most popular among local mountain bikers. The vast forests which extend right from the center of our capital city Ljubljana hide numerous great trails, but they are difficult to find without a local guide.
You can also head to the Coast and Karst, where mountain biking is possible practically the whole year round as the region does not get much snow. Single trails as well as very nice ''trekking'' tours are possible.
For all of you who are looking for less demanding and enjoyable cycling tours we would definitely recommend one of Slovenia's wine growing regions: Goriška Brda, Jeruzalem or the area around Maribor. Ride your bike for a few hours and then take a rest, have a delicious meal and taste the outstanding local wines.
