The Village Gozd above Tržič: Get off the motorway 'Ljubljana – Jesenice' at the exit 'Kranj – zahod' and follow the signposts for Golnik. In Golnik continue on the road towards Tržič and search for the signpost for Gozd, which leads you on a narrow road up right. Go along the main road until reaching the village Gozd. You can park near the church or in a spacious parking lot near the mountain hut in Gozd (approx.. 890m).
You can reach Gozd from Tržič as well. Before the gas station in Tržič turn right and then right again (in the direction of Križe or Golnik). Follow the directions for Golnik and after the village Križe, pay attention to the signpost for Gozd, which takes you sharply left. Go along the main road until you reach the village Gozd. You can park near the church or in a spacious parking lot near the mountain hut in Gozd (app. 890m).
Description:
From the mountain hut in Gozd go along a dirt road until the village Gozd. Turn left at the Partisan memorial and follow the signposts for Kriška gora. The path is really popular and is soon trodden even after snow. But the ground becomes hard or icy and small crampons are more than welcome. You come out of the forest right next to the hut on Kriška gora and you can start enjoying the amazing view of the surroundings.
Turn sharply right and proceed up the ridge eastwards. Follow the ridge, there is a slight descent just before the last summit and the final ascent on Tolsti vrh, marked by a small wooden 'house' (a signpost).
If the snow conditions are not favourable, it is best to return to the valley following the ascent path. If there is little snow, you can return to Gozd via the path called 'Čez Ježo'. This path crosses steep grassy slopes, where avalanches often occur! Descend southwards from the summit. Follow the ridge and after 15 minutes pay attention to the signpost pointing sharply right. The path turns west and keeps the same direction all the way. It crosses steep grassy slopes, partly through the forest and takes you directly to the village Gozd.

Skiing:
This trip is not very interesting for skiers. The slopes which are not covered with trees are extremely steep and avalanche prone!
